How to Negotiate Prices Without Being Rude
Negotiating is normal on IzanDeals but doing it badly can cost you the deal. Here is how to get a lower price while keeping the seller happy.
Almost every seller on IzanDeals expects some level of negotiation. The key is doing it in a way that feels respectful rather than insulting.
Start With Interest, Not Price
Before discussing price, show genuine interest in the item. Ask questions about condition, age and reason for selling. This builds rapport and makes the seller more willing to negotiate.
Make a Reasonable Opening Offer
Do not offer 50% of the asking price — it is insulting and will likely end the conversation. A reasonable opening offer is 10–20% below the asking price.
Explain Your Reasoning
"I noticed there is a small scratch on the back — would you take GH₵X?" gives the seller a reason to agree. An unexplained low offer is harder to accept.
Be Willing to Walk Away
The most powerful negotiating position is genuine willingness to walk away. If the seller knows you can live without the item, they are more likely to meet you halfway.
Offer Something in Return
"If you can do GH₵X, I can come today with cash." Speed and certainty are valuable to sellers. Offering to pay immediately can unlock a discount.
Accept No Gracefully
If the seller will not move on price, respect their decision. You can always come back later — sometimes sellers become more flexible after a few days without other buyers.
